Rio de Janeiro Most Expensive City

Rio de Janeiro has overtaken Sydney to become the world’s most expensive city for hotels as the cost of accommodation continues to soar in the Brazilian capital.

Tourists paid an average of £192.88 per night for a hotel room near Sugarloaf Mountain during the first three months of 2012 – an increase of nearly 50 per cent compared with the same period last year. Win A Warhol

A hotel in Melbourne is giving guests the chance to win a £12,500 Andy Warhol original – by correctly identifying it from a line-up of fakes.

The ‘Which Warhol’s Warhol’s’ promotion will see ‘ten’ of the artist’s work showcased at Art Series Hotels between May 15 and Aug 3, although just one is real. Guests who book a room at any of the group’s three hotels will be given the opportunity to guess the one produced by the Sixties pop artist.

‘The winner is the person who not only correctly identifies the original, but who gives us the most interesting reason for their choice,’ says the Art Series Hotel Group website.

When it comes to listing the most beautiful countries in the world, many may look to sun-drenched nations or tropical islands.

But it seems Twitter and Pinterest users have different ideas. In a competition to find the country with the most spectacular scenery a rather unusual entry has come out on top… Latvia.

First Choice is asking holidaymakers to pin images of the most beautiful country in the world on Pinterest, or describe which country deserves the moniker on Twitter, producing some surprising results. So far in the competition Latvia has received an amazing 36 per cent of the vote on Twitter and Pinterest, putting it streets ahead of its closest rivals.

Heartbreak Hotel

A heartbroken man who bought a holiday to Malta for his girlfriend has decided to give it away for free after they split up.

Tom Frankenburg, from Nottingham, posted a video on YouTube called “Tom Goes Crazy and Gives His Holiday Away” in which he says he will give the July trip to the most deserving person.

The 22-year-old guitar teacher says in his three-and-a-half minute video that he is donating the trip as a way to get over his break-up and to make the world a better place.
